An optical device and a method for manufacture the same are provided to form two diffraction gratings having different periods on the same substrate by using an interference exposure method. An optical device includes an optical waveguide structure, a main diffraction grating(11), and a secondary diffraction grating(12). The optical waveguide structure is formed on a substrate(1), defines an optical waveguide for guiding light in a direction parallel to the surface of the substrate and biases light intensity distribution of a transverse mode of a guided light wave toward a first side(S1) of the optical waveguide. The main diffraction grating is coupled with the guided light wave by being positioned at a second side(S2) opposite to the first side of the optical waveguide. The secondary diffraction grating diffracts the guided light wave in a direction different from the extension direction of the optical waveguide by being positioned at the first side of the optical waveguide and coupled with the main diffraction grating.
