The fabrication of a catalyst-coated- backing (CCB) electrode-membrane-electrode assembly comprises a polymer electrolyte membrane (27) on which are placed a two electrodes (21, 21') formed by active and a gas diffusion layers. The membrane and electrodes are continuously assembled by dynamic pressing at a temperature of less than 100 o>C, the outer surface of the active layers having been heated to a temperature between 50 and 200 o>C. Rolls of polyelectrolyte membrane and peel- off adhesive backing films (23, 23') are positioned and the electrodes are cut and deposited onto the backing films.
