The system to process samples at a controlled temperature has at least one sample holder (2), a sample heater/cooler (4) and a cover system (3) with a lid (11) for the sample reaction vessel (1). The cover system has a movement unit (24,25) to position it in relation to the sample(s). A guide (7) moves the lid to be in or out of physical contact with the reaction vessel(s).
