A vacuum cleaner and a filter unit thereof are provided to separate a filter unit easily from the vacuum cleaner easily and to discharge dust stacked in a filter member by holding a handle of the filter unit and pulling the filter unit backward. A vacuum cleaner comprises a cleaner body, a filter unit(400), a filter unit receiving part, and a filter cover. The filter unit has a filter member for filtering air and cases having the filter member. The filter unit receiving part, which is formed at the cleaner body, receives the filter unit. The filter cover opens and closes the filter unit receiving part selectively. The case includes a first case(410) receiving the filter member, and a second case(420) combined with the first case to form a space. The second case has a handle. An air inlet hole(422) passes air into the case. Guide parts(416,427) guide a combined position of each case.
