A method and an apparatus for transceiving control information in a single carrier frequency division multiple access system are provided to distinguish a user from other users by diffusing the control information in a time domain through an orthogonal code. A method for transceiving control information in a single carrier frequency division multiple access system includes the steps of: selecting a transmission method of the control information(504); diffusing the control information through a Zadoff Chu sequence circulation-shifted for each resource block if the amount of the control information is equal to or less than a threshold value(508); transmitting data and the control information through time-division multiplexing in the existence of the data to be transmitted to an uplink; and diffusing the control information in a time domain through an orthogonal code allocated for each terminal if the amount of the control information exceeds the threshold value or various kinds of the control information are to be transmitted simultaneously without the data to be transmitted to the uplink.
