Provided is a means for simultaneously operating different multiple mill outlet sections at a combined manufacturing rate which exceeds the second manufacturing rates of individual outlets, and which ideally equals and thus takes advantage of the elevated first manufacturing rate of an initial mill section to the utmost. A rolling mill comprises: an initial mill section(IMS) constructed and arranged to reheat and continuously roll billets into intermediate products(16) at a first manufacturing rate; multiple differently constructed outlet mill sections(OMS1-OMS3) constructed and arranged to additionally roll the intermediate products into finished products(26) that are processed into packages at a second manufacturing rate that is lower than the first manufacturing rate, the forms of the packages manufactured by at least some of the outlet mill sections being different from the forms of packages manufactured by other of the outlet mill sections; accumulators(48) which are interposed between each of the outlet mill sections and the initial mill section, and each of which is constructed and arranged to receive the intermediate products at the first manufacturing rate and transfer the intermediate products to the associated outlet mill section at its respective second manufacturing rate, and in which the excess intermediate products generated due to a difference between the first and second production rates are stored temporarily; and switch units(18,44) for receiving successive length parts of the intermediate products from the initial mill section and for selectively guiding the intermediate products to the selected outlet mill sections via respective accumulators of the outlet mill sections that have been selected to process the intermediate products into finished products at the same time.
