An image conversion device for generating an address signal changed according to a selected image conversion mode, and an image conversion method thereof are provided to execute an image conversion operation by using only a register buffer of small capacity without an additional frame memory and reduce excessive loads concentrated to a CPU. A conversion operation controller(220) selects one of plural image conversion modes based on image conversion information received from a CPU(Central Processing Unit). The conversion operation controller outputs read and write address variables and control signals for access of a memory and conversion of an image in the selected image conversion mode based on the image conversion information, address generation complete signal and conversion complete signal. An address generator(230) computes the read or write address variables in response to a part of the control signals. The address generator outputs the address generation complete signal and a read or write address signal corresponding to the selected image conversion mode. An image converter(240) reads and converts a source image stored in a memory based on the control signals, the read address signal and the write address signal. The image converter rewrites the converted image in the memory.
