An apparatus and a method for controlling convergence propensity are provided to check propensity control and defect pixels at low cost on a field by using an external connection device and provide various supplementary services. A storage device where propensity patterns are stored as an image picture file is connected to an external connection device(S100). By the connection device, a menu screen is displayed on a convergence screen(S110). On the menu screen, a propensity pattern file to be controlled is selected(S120). After that, propensity is controlled by using the selected pattern(S130). The menu screen includes propensity control, homecare information, picture slide and manual video screen.
