An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a method for driving the same are provided to swing a common voltage applied through storage lines, thereby preventing the defect of reliability due to a remaining DC voltage within the LCD panel. An LCD panel(120) comprises gate and data lines crossing each other to defined pixel regions. Thin film transistors, liquid crystal capacitors, and storage lines are formed within the pixel regions. A driving circuit part(140) receives a control signal and a data signal from an interface directly connected to an external system to control the light transmittances of the liquid crystal capacitors. A storage voltage generator(170) receives an AC waveform storage voltage to the storage lines. A driving voltage generator(160) supplies driving voltages to the LCD panel, the driving circuit part, and the storage voltage generator. The driving circuit part includes a data timing controller(144), a gate driver(146), and a data driver(148). The timing controller generates a drive control signal for driving the LCD panel correspondingly to the control signal, and rearranges the data signal such that the data driver processes the data signal. The gate driver turns on or off the thin film transistors through the gate lines correspondingly to the drive control signal. The data driver converts the data signal into an image signal correspondingly to the drive control signal, and supplies the image signal to the pixel regions through the data lines. |
