摘要 An array substrate for an IPS(In-Plane Switching) mode LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to form a multi-domain region where liquid crystals are symmetrically arranged in upper, lower, left, and right directions by improving the structures of a common electrode and a pixel electrode, thereby widening viewing angle. A gate line(102) is extended in one direction above a substrate. A data line(114) crosses the gate line to define a pixel region. A switching element(T) is formed at a crossing point of the gate line and the data line. A common electrode(106) includes first and second horizontal portions(106a,106b) positioned at upper and lower parts of the pixel region, first to third vertical portions(106c-106e) contacted with the first and second horizontal portions, a plurality of first protrusions(106f) vertically extended from the first vertical portion, a plurality of second protrusions(106g) vertically extended from the third vertical portion, and a plurality of third horizontal portions(106h) vertically crossing the second vertical portion. A pixel electrode(108) includes a first electrode(108a) and a plurality of second and third electrodes(108b,108c). In the first electrode of the pixel electrode, hexagonal patterns are consecutively disposed while neighboring hexagonal patterns share first and second sides, which are parallel with each other above and below. Each of the third horizontal portions of the common electrode is disposed in the middle of the corresponding hexagonal pattern. The second and third electrodes of the pixel electrode are horizontally extended from both sides of the first electrode.
