A vertical frame of a steel curtain wall is provided to be strong structurally to be suitable for a high-rise building, to heighten decorative effect by forming elegant appearance using a vertical frame with a vertical member projected and coupled to the outside of a stiffening member, and to disperse horizontal pressure and interlayer load by reinforcing the inside of a vertical frame with plural inner plates and to fulfill the function of an air chamber by forming plural spaces. A vertical frame of a steel curtain wall comprises a pair of vertical members(11) made of steel having the appointed width and thickness, plural stiffening members(12) coupled to face each other between the vertical members, and a bracket(14) coupled to one side of the stiffening member and fitted with a spacer(20) which is coupled with a pressure plate(21) by a bolt(22). In addition, plural inner plates are installed to the inside of the vertical frame to support the interlayer load of a building more effectively and to form plural spaces in the vertical frame to cut off the circulation of air in the vertical frame, thereby to prevent dew condensation caused by temperature difference between the inside and outside of a building, and to fulfill the function of an air chamber and to improve adiabatic effect.
