Compounds of formula (I) (see formula I) wherein R1 through R8 are selected independently from hydrogen atoms and pharmaceutically acceptable substituents, as well as pharmaceutically acceptable salts of compounds of formula (I) and mixtures of substances containing at least one compound of formula ( I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof are used for preparation of medicaments for inhibiti ng transcription factor NF-.kappa.B and/or for inhibiting COX with a preferential inhibitory effect for COX-2.
