An image forming apparatus and a method for controlling temperature of its fixing unit are provided to solve a problem that a user standby time is lengthened because a recording medium cannot be printed until an image forming unit is initialized and a fixing unit is warmed up. An image forming unit(10) forms an image. A fixing unit(20) fixes the image transferred to a recording medium after being formed by the image forming unit. A power supply unit(30) supplies power to the fixing unit. When the image forming unit is completely initialized, a first fixing unit controller(40) controls the power supply unit to supply power to the fixing unit. A second fixing unit controller(50) controls the power supply unit to allow the first fixing unit controller to supply power to the fixing unit within an interval during which the initialization is performed. When external power is applied, the second fixing unit controller controls the power supply unit to supply power to the fixing unit. When the initialization of the image forming unit is completed, the second fixing unit controller stops controlling of the power supply unit. |
