A power supply circuit and a method for driving the same are provided to minimize power consumption of a semiconductor memory device using the power supply circuit, by preventing the supply of an external voltage in a power down mode. According to a power supply circuit, a first power supply part(100) supplies first charges to an output stage of the power supply circuit during first driving time and second driving time by using an external voltage. A second power supply part(102) is electrically connected to the first power supply part, and supplies second charges to the output stage of the power supply circuit during the first driving time and the second driving time by being enabled by the first power supply part. A power down part(104) discharges charges of the output stage of the power supply circuit during power down time. The power down time is between the first driving time and the second driving time.
