METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INPUTTING A CHARACTER OF IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE

A method and a device for inputting a character in an image display device are provided to enable a user to input the desired characters conveniently and efficiently using a remote controller without any interference in viewing a TV set by applying a mobile phone character input mode, and enabling the user to select the mobile phone or screen keyboard character input mode. A remote controller(50) receives a command from a user. A controller(70) displays a menu screen for selecting a character input mode according to a character input command received through the remote controller, displays a character input window corresponding to the selected character input mode on the menu screen, and switches the character input mode. A memory(80) stores character layout screens and screen keyboard data for generating the character input window. An input window generator(90) generates the character input window corresponding to the selected character input mode by extracting the character layout screen or the screen keyboard data from the memory according to a control signal of the controller. A display unit(110) displays the generated character input window. The character input mode is a mobile phone or screen keyboard mode.
