A mobile communication system for providing supplemental services through auxiliary devices capable of being separably installed at mobile terminals and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to make a prepaid phone call through a hot key by storing prepaid telephone information in an auxiliary device which is separably installed at a mobile terminal. A mobile communication system comprises an auxiliary device(110), a mobile terminal(120), and a supplemental service server(130). The auxiliary device, which is separably installed at the mobile terminal, stores hardware/software authentication information, the unique identification information of the mobile terminal, and supplemental service information. If the auxiliary device is installed, the mobile terminal recognizes the information stored in the auxiliary device, transmits a supplemental service request signal and data to the supplemental service server through a mobile communication network and receives an associated supplemental service from the supplemental service server. The supplemental service server provides the supplemental service to the mobile terminal through the mobile communication network according to the mobile terminal's supplemental service request signal.
