A serial communication system for performing bidirectional communication with one transfer line and a method thereof are provided to implement the communication system easily and reduce an expense needed for installing the communication system by performing the bidirectional communication with one transfer line, and improve reliability of the serial communication by enabling a transmission device to check whether data is correctly transferred to a reception device. A second device(20) is connected to a first device(10) with one transfer line(30) and performs bidirectional serial communication with the first device by using the transfer line. The first and second devices transfer various kinds of signals or data by changing a level of the transfer line into a high or low level.
