ELECTRIC DOUBLE LAYER CAPACITOR, ACTIVATED CARBON FOR ELECTRODE THEREOF AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME

An electric double layer capacitor, an activated carbon for an electrode thereof and a method for producing the same are provided to reduce a process time by facilitating an activation reaction through rapid discharge of water vapor and carbon dioxide in first and second activation steps. A method for producing an activated carbon includes the steps of: mixing a carbonaceous material and an alkali metal compound in powder or solution(S1); freeze-drying the mixture(S2); primarily activating the mixture(S3); and secondarily activating the mixture(S4). The step of primarily activating the mixture includes the increase of temperature to 400‹C at a temperature increasing velocity of 0.001‹C~5‹C per minute. The step of secondarily activating the mixture includes the increase of temperature to 500‹C~1200‹C at a temperature increasing velocity of 0.1‹C~10‹C per minute.
