The brake has inboard and outboard disc brake pads (2, 1) slidably mounted in a clevis (4) of a braking system, and separated by a separating system during absence of stress from the braking system. A mechanical maintaining device maintains a hydraulic piston (8) against the pad (2), and is in support on the piston. A fixation unit constituted by a groove e.g. blind groove, removably fixes the device on a surface of the pad (2) opposite to a brake disc (3), and is implemented by a simple relative sliding between the device and the pad (2). An independent claim is also included for a method of assembling a disc brake.
