XML type electronic document i.e. multi-file, authenticating method for e.g. commercial aircraft, involves adding timestamp token and public key's certificate status to electronic document for creating authenticated electronic document

The method involves generating a digital signature (117) of an electronic document (100) to be authenticated using a private key (107) corresponding to a public key (137) certified by a certification authority (147). A document timestamp request (126) is generated to obtain a timestamp token (127) signed by a timestamp server (125). Another request (136) for obtaining a certificate status of the public key is generated following to the timestamp request. The timestamp token and the certificated status are added to the electronic document to create authenticated electronic document (150). An independent claim is also included for a method for verifying validity of an authenticated electronic document.
