PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can detect the attachment/detachment state of ink cartridges thereto/therefrom by a reflective optical sensor, wherein the ink cartridges dispense with reflection sections for detecting the attachment/detachment thereof, to thereby cut costs of the ink cartridges and prevent erroneous recognition of the attachment/detachment state due to blur of the reflection sections or disturbing light. SOLUTION: The printer 10 is formed of: the reflective optical sensor 30 which emits light to a cartridge holder 31, and detects the attachment/detachment state of the ink cartridges 32A, 32B, based on reflected light; reflecting members 40A, 40B which are arranged in the cartridge holder 31, and form reflective light paths of the optical sensor 30; and shielding members 42A, 42B which are arranged on the ink cartridges 32A, 32B, and function to shield the light paths of the optical sensor 30 when the ink cartridges 32A, 32B are mounted in the cartridge holder 31.
