PROGESTERONE FOR THE TREATMENT OR PREVENTION OF SPONTANEOUS PRETERM BIRTH

A method for treating or preventing spontaneous preterm birth in pregnant women and improving neonatal morbidity and mortality. The method includes a dministering to a pregnant woman in need thereof an effective amount of a pr ogesterone sufficient to prolong gestation by minimizing the shortening or e ffacing of her cervix. Treatment and prophylaxis with progesterone in pregna nt women having symptoms of short cervix has been clinically shown to increa se neonatal health.
