A composition comprising the extract of Vitidis Viniferae Caulis is provided to prevent and treat asthma or COPD(chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) by activating beta 2 adrenalin receptor and reduce side effects. A pharmaceutical or health food composition for preventing and treating asthma or COPD comprises the extract of Vitidis Viniferae Caulis which is prepared by (a) drying and pulverizing Vitidis Viniferae Caulis, (b) extracting the pulverized Vitidis Viniferae Caulis with C1-C4 anhydrous or hydrous lower alcohol, ethylacetate or acetone, and filtering the extract, and (c) filtering the filtered solution and concentrating the filtered solution under reduced pressure at 40 deg. C or less, and is formulated as tablet, pill, powder, granule, capsule, suspension, emulsion, solution, syrup, skin external preparation, suppository or sterile injection solution.
