<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the operation efficiency of an engine and reduce NOx emissions. <P>SOLUTION: A method of operating the internal combustion engine comprises a step of introducing air to the internal combustion engine, a step of burning an admixture at a target combustion temperature and producing an exhaust gas, a step of passing a first portion of the charge-air through a heat exchanger and by-passing a second portion of the charge-air, a step of sensing intake temperature of the charge-air, step of detecting oxygen concentration in the admixture, a step of sensing engine operating conditions inclusive of torque demand, crank angle and combustion pressure, a step of determining a target crank angle for peak combustion pressure at the torque demand, and a step of bringing the crank angle into conformance with the target crank angle by controlling an amount of the second portion by operation of a control valve to adjust the sensed intake temperature and by regulating the portion of exhaust recirculated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
