PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimally control luminance in each device without being affected by the difference in changes caused by temperature in the emission luminance-application voltage characteristics in each device.

SOLUTION: A change amount in emission luminance in each display pixel is detected by an emission luminance change detection unit 507 based on the detection output of a light receiving element 38, as well as a change amount in temperature in each pixel is detected by a temperature change detection unit 510 based on the detection output of a temperature detection unit 40 using the same organic EL element as in pixels as a detection element. The change amount in luminance in each pixel is reflected on the change amount in temperature in each pixel by a data normalization process unit 511 so as to generate a control signal for controlling the duty of emission/non-emission. The luminance correction is controlled by carrying out the duty control based on the above control signal.
