Disclosed is an aqueous ink composition for a ballpoint pen, which comprises a dye, water, a water-soluble organic solvent, and ?-carrageenan. When used in a ballpoint pen, the ink composition satisfies a drooling property and desiccation resistance which are mutually contradictory properties and has excellent marking performance in spite of containing a dye as a coloring agent. For practical use, the ink composition (C) is charged into an ink-reservoir (18), a backflow-preventing material (20) is further charged over the ink composition (C) to form an ink cartridge (12), and the ink cartridge (12) is included in a ballpoint pen (10) which is adapted so that a pen tip can be retracted and extruded from the front opening of a tubular body (21). |
