A backlight unit and an LCD module using the same are provided to reduce a distance from plural lamps to a diffuser plate through the diffuser plate and plural optical sheets sequentially laminated on the diffuser plate, thereby reducing an entire thickness of the backlight unit. Plural light sources(130) are arranged in parallel and generate light. A case(120) contains the light sources. A diffuser plate(140) diffuses the light from the light source. Plural prism units(152,156) are disposed on the diffuser plate and have different thicknesses. A diffuser(154) is disposed between the prism units. Each of the plural prism units has a base layer and plural prism patterns. The prism patterns are formed on the base layer and concentrate incident light.
