PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ring-opening metathesis polymerization catalyst having sufficiently high catalyst activity and also produced industrially simply and at a low cost. SOLUTION: This ring-opening metathesis polymerization catalyst contains a transition metal alkylidene complex having a specific structure and expressed by general formula (1) [wherein, M is a group 5 transition metal in the periodic table; R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>are each independently H, a 1-20C alkyl or the like; and Y is an alkyloxy group having a specific structure or the like, or a ketimide group having a specific structure].
