PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ADAM inhibitor preventing or ameliorating the pathologic condition caused by the increase of activities of a group of membrane form metalloproteases referred to as ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease). SOLUTION: The ADAM inhibitor comprises an ascorbic acid derivative represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R is a 1-22C linear or branched alkyl group) or a salt thereof. The ADAM inhibitor is considered to prevent or ameliorate the induction or progress of the pathologic condition of cancer, rheumatism, Alzheimer's disease or the like, and can prevent or ameliorate wrinkles by being applied to the wrinkles caused by the excessive proliferation of epidermal cells.
