PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary electric machine in which a field coil 3 formed by winding a flat wire in an edgewise direction can be adjusted to have the arbitrary number of turns. SOLUTION: A first field coil 3a and a second field coil 3b are formed by winding a single flat wire in the edgewise direction, and connected in series through a jumper wire 7. The jumper wire 7 is elongated in an axial direction between the first field coil 3a and the second field coil 3b, and is constituted so that an extracting position from which the jumper wire is extracted from the first field coil 3a is set oppositely from an extracting position where it is extracted from the second field coil 3b. With this configuration, in the second field coil 3b, the number of layers of the flat wire to be disposed on both side of the circumferential direction of a magnetic pole 2 is different in both the sides of the magnetic pole 2, and the side where the jumper wire 7 is extracted is smaller than that of the opposite side by one layer, that means, the number of turns of the second field coil 3b is smaller by 0.5 turn.
