PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pretreatment method for coating which does not limit a coating method, places a less burden on the environment and can apply good chemical conversion treatment to all metals such as iron, zinc, aluminum and so on. SOLUTION: The pretreatment method for coating comprises treating a substance to be treated with a chemical conversion treatment agent to form a chemical conversion coat, wherein the chemical conversion treatment agent comprises: at least one kind selected from the group consisting of zirconium, titanium and hafnium; fluorine; and at least one kind selected from the group consisting of amino group-containing silane coupling agents, hydrolysates thereof and polymers thereof.
