PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent wrinkle stretching effect without changing conventional basic roll structure. SOLUTION: This expander roll used in a paper-making process or coating process in paper manufacture has a curved non-rotational shaft 2, a bearing 3 attached to an outer circumference of the shaft 2, a spool 4 provided integrally in an outer circumference of the bearing 3, and a rubber cylindrical body 5 attached to an outside of the spool 4, a spiral recessed groove 6 having 10-50 mm of groove width lateral-symmetrically from its length central portion is formed on an outer circumferential face of the rubber cylindrical body 5, both side walls of the spiral recessed groove 6 are formed into a tapered shape toward an opening part in response to requirement, a depth of the recessed groove is 0.5-2.5 mm, and a pitch thereof is 25-100 mm.
