PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus related for cleaning plate cylinders and rollers in a printer, especially the method and the apparatus capable of remarkably decreasing down time in an operating mode "cleaning the rollers (and the plate cylinders)". SOLUTION: In this method for cleaning, for cleaning a dampening apparatus 5, a dampening water container 13 in which dampening water is stored moves from a first operating position for operating printing in which a dampening water doctor 12 is immersed in the dampening water to a second operating position. After cleaning is executed, the down time can be remarkably decreased by either retaining the dampening water container 13 in which the dampening water is stored at the second operating position as it is or returning it to the first operation position.
