PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink-remaining amount sensing method which enables the accurate ink-remaining amount sensing so as not to cause ink in a sub tank to run out when an ink tank in use turns empty and needs to be exchanged in a recording apparatus capable of making the ink tank exchangeable without interrupting recording operation with the sub tank. SOLUTION: The method enables the start of a second dot count which counts for each ink consumption in the sub tank to store it in an NVRAM in the recording apparatus when ink in the ink tank runs out.
