摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure advantages of an intermediate lock VTC system to the maximum extent by improving the return property of intake valve to a fixed position. SOLUTION: This engine controller is provided with an intake side variable valve timing mechanism 11 having a fixing mechanism 26 capable of fixing the intake valve timing to the fixed position by using an intermediate position as the fixed position to let the intake valve timing advance and lag, an oil pump 51 for supplying hydraulic fluid into the mechanism, and a lag angle control means 71 for letting the intake valve timing lag from the most lag angle position to the intermediate position at idling time. This engine controller is provided with an advance control means 71 for letting the intake valve timing advance to the fixed position when predicting engine stop and a hydraulic pressure boosting means 71 for boosting the hydraulic fluid to be supplied into the intake side variable valve timing mechanism 11 to increase response speed of the intake valve timing to the fixed position when predicting engine stop in the same way.
