<p>A universal fitting for mounting a component such as a light or a smoke alarm to a wall or ceiling, comprising an annular body (2) for permanent recessed installation in an aperture in a wall or ceiling, the annular body being configured to interchangeably receive one of a plurality of associated components and defining an internal shoulder against which locates a mounting member attached to or forming part of an associated component and, a magnetic releasable retaining element for maintaining a mounting member against the internal shoulder to attach said associated component to the annular body.
