A magnetic bearing device has a rotating shaft (3) and a bearing structur e (5) for supporting the rotating shaft (3) by magnetic force. The bearing s tructure (5) has magnetic pole parts (7) opposed to the outer peripheral sur face of the rotating shaft (3) and surrounding the rotating shaft (3), and s upports without contact the rotating shaft (3) by magnetic force generated b etween the magnetic pole parts (7) and the rotating shaft (3). Depressions ( 9) are formed in the surface of the rotating shaft. At least one of the fact ors of the shape, the positions, and the quantity of the depressions is set so that an eddy current generated on the surface of the rotating shaft is su ppressed by rotation of the rotating shaft (3) and by a magnetic field cause d by the magnetic pole parts (7).
