PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article conveying facility capable of reading surely a bar code during conveyance of an article, and capable of preventing a conveying capacity from getting low. SOLUTION: The minimum distance (space) K required for the article 11 in the next downstream of a reading objective article 11 and the reading objective article 11 is found in response to an arranging position (X, Y) of a bar code reader 25, and a height H detected by an area sensor of the article 11 in the next downstream, and an inter-article space is controlled based on the minimum distance K. An optical path of the bar code reader 25 is not disturbed by the preceding article 11 in the next downstream, because of the minimum distance K, to read normally the bar code 24 of the reading objective article 11, and the space between the articles 11 is thereby shortened compared with that when the preceding article 11 in the next downstream is the article having the highest height, so as to enhance the conveying capacity.
