The operation microscope (1), especially for ophthalmic surgery, has a lighting system (2) to give an illuminating light (60) along a light path (6) to the target zone (4). A lens system (8) gives an image of the target zone. The light is provided by a xenon gas discharge lamp (10) and a spectral filter (12) can be inserted into the light path to give the light two different spectral characteristics.
