Items contained in an interstitial laser therapy kit are useable to perfo rm a single interstitial laser treatment. The kit includes a laser probe can nula, a stylet, a thermal probe, two probe holders, and a removable optical fiber, sterilized and contained in a non-resealable plastic bag. A kit ident ifier is associated with the kit. The interstitial laser therapy kit is comb ined with an interstitial laser therapy apparatus to perform a single inters titial laser treatment. An interstitial laser therapy control system include s a thermistor controller, a microprocessor, and various electro-mechanical switches. The control system verifies that the interstitial laser therapy ki t is valid based on a kit identifier. The microprocessor is configured to mo nitor temperatures detected by one or more thermistors and determine when to cease applying laser energy. An electro-mechanical shutter switch closes a shutter on the laser source. An electro-mechanical emergency stop button cut s off power to the laser source. |
