<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily access a recording medium loaded on a process cartridge as much as possible and also to prevent access failure caused by a difference between the timing of setting the process cartridge and the timing of accessing the storage medium. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a plurality of process cartridges having electrostatic image characteristic processing mechanism members. The process cartridge is provided with the storage medium. An apparatus main body is provided with a contact capable of being connected to the storage medium. The apparatus main body or the process cartridge is provided with an energizing means for energizing the process cartridge to a predetermined holding position relative to the main body of the apparatus. The image forming apparatus can access the storage medium via the corresponding contact after the process cartridge is once set in the predetermined holding position.
