PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nano-porous metal, which has greatly different properties from a bulk metal, and is expected in the field of physics and chemistry as to have many notable functions. SOLUTION: The nano-porous metal is produced by the steps of: preparing an alloy which contains at least two metals of a metal having sensitivity to a medium having a corroding function, and a metal having resistance to the medium having the corroding function; and bringing the alloy into contact with the medium having the corroding function to remove the constituents in the alloy by corroding the alloy in a low temperature condition for an effective period of time for forming the nano-porous metal. Thus obtained metal has an average pore size of about 33 nm or less and further about 5 nm or less, and shows remarkable surface enhanced Raman scattering when the metal having absorbed rhodamine 6G in the surface is subjected to Raman scattering signal measurement.
