PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ethyl 2,2-difluoro-phenylacetoacetate, suitable for the production in an industrial scale. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 2,2-difluoro-phenylacetoacetate is characterized by reacting phenylacetyl chloride with chlorine (Cl<SB>2</SB>) to obtain 2,2-dichloro-phenylacetyl chloride, reacting the obtained 2,2-dichloro-phenylacetyl chloride with an alcohol to obtain a 2,2-dichloro-phenylacetoacetate, and then reacting the obtained 2,2-dichloro-phenylacetoacetate with hydrogen fluoride (HF) in a liquid phase to obtain the 2,2-difluoro-phenylacetoacetate.
