A recording device is provided for writing a part of a plurality of sub-contents, which are recorded in a first recording medium and constitute one set of contents, in a second recording medium. The recording device is characterized in that the device comprises a sub-contents acquiring means that selects and acquires one set or more of reproduction permitted sub-contents as selected sub-contents from the first recording medium that records the sub-contents, a summary value of each of the sub-contents, and a medium signature generated in accordance with the summary values of the sub-contents; an excepted summary value acquiring means for acquiring summary values of non-selected sub-contents except the selected sub-contents, as excepted summary values, from the first recording medium; a signature acquiring means for acquiring the medium signature from the first recording medium; and a writing means for writing the excepted summary values of the non-selected sub-contents and the medium signature in the second medium.
