PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image tracking device and an imaging apparatus capable of resuming a target to an original object to be tracked even if another object is erroneously recognized as the target to be tracked. SOLUTION: A target part of an image imaged with an imaging element is set as a reference image. Then, the degree of similarity between a plurality of partial regions in the image imaged with the imaging element and the reference image is obtained respectively, and the positions of the plurality of the partial regions selected in the order of higher similarity from the plurality of partial regions are extracted as a plurality of candidates of new position of the object, and one of the plurality of candidates is recognized as a new position of the object. Then, a plurality of candidates are newly extracted from a subsequent image and used as a candidate for the subsequent image on the basis of the positions corresponding to the plurality of candidates among subsequent images to be newly imaged with the imaging element, and the new position of the object in the subsequent image is recognized from among the candidates for the subsequent image.
