<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material which is manufactured by dispersing/depositing a catalytic particle in/on a carrier consisting of a structural carbon material and to provide a method for manufacturing the composite material and an electrochemical device containing the composite material. <P>SOLUTION: The composite material 10 comprises the carrier 12 and the catalytic particle 14 deposited on the carrier 12. The carrier 12 is obtained by a method comprising the steps of: wet-treating the structural carbon material to modify the surface thereof; and heat-treating the wet-treated structural carbon material. In the concrete, a single layer carbon nanotube, a multilayer carbon nanotube, a carbon nanohorn, fullerene, a fullerene nanowhisker, a carbon nanofiber, nanographite, a carbon nanofilament and a mixture of them can be used as the structural carbon material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
