PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organometallic complex having excellent properties as a catalyst for a Mukaiyama aldol reaction. SOLUTION: THF (5 mL) is added to a Schlenk reaction flask to which sodium phenoxide (0.025 mmol) and 1,2-bis(diphenyl-phosphoryl)benzene (0.050 mmol) are inserted in nitrogen atmosphere, and the resultant mixture is stirred for 10 min at room temperature. Thereafter, the solution is cooled to -78°C, and stirred for 5 min. Methyl trimethylsilyl dimethyl ketene acetal (3.0 mmol) as silyl enolate and benzophenone (2.5 mmol) are added to the same solution, and the resultant mixture is stirred at -78°C for 2 hr to afford an aldol adduct having two neighboring quaternary carbons in 97% yield.
