A liquid crystal controller (20) comprises a memory (21) for storing a plurality of gradation conversion tables (21b) having gradation changing degrees different from each other, a selection unit (22a) for selecting such one from the gradation conversion tables (21b) as is referred to, and a conversion unit (22b) for converting the input gradation data with reference to the gradation conversion table (21b) selected. The selecting condition in the selection unit (22a) is set such that the gradation conversion table of the higher gradation changing degree is selected as the vertical frequency of the liquid crystal display becomes the higher and as the liquid crystal temperature becomes the lower. At least some of the gradation conversion tables (21b) are set such that the range of the liquid crystal temperature, for which the gradation conversion tables are selected, may be the larger as the vertical frequency becomes the higher. As a result, a more proper gradation conversion is realized for an overshoot drive.
