Clock recovery which selects between over-sampling and baud rate recovery

A receiver circuit 600 contains an over sampling clock recovery system 602 and a baud rate clock recovery system 604. A select input SEL determines whether the over-sampling system or the baud rate system is used to recover the clock. The over-sampling system may use a bang-bang recovery method. The baud rate system may use a Mueller-MÌller recovery method. The circuit may have an analogue to digital converter 3, the input of which is coupled to the data input terminal DATA of the circuit and the output of which is coupled to the clock recovery systems. The output of the analogue to digital converter may be coupled to the clock recovery systems via an equaliser. The selected clock output may set the sampling point of the analogue to digital converter.
