A closed passage conveys a nitrogen oxide-containing flow of exhaust gas (1) from an exhaust gas source (2). A metering element (7) introduces a urea-water solution into the flow of exhaust gas. A film vaporizer (11) downstream of the metering element relative to the flow of exhaust gas has surfaces that are arranged in the flow of exhaust gas where the urea-water solution is applied and vaporized. A catalytic converter (13) downstream of the vaporizer receives the flow of exhaust gas and the vaporized urea-water solution. Independent claims are included for (1) combination; (2) method of cleaning exhaust gases containing nitrogen oxide.
